Indonesian Journal of Islamic Law (IJIL)

The Indonesian Journal of Islamic Law, a.k.a. IJIL (P-ISSN: 3089-5839, E-ISSN: 2615-7543), is published twice a year, in June and December, by the IJIL Research Centre of the Department of Islamic Family Law, Postgraduate Programme, Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, since 2018 (first edition).

IJIL steadfastly maintains Islamic legal studies as the cornerstone of its academic inquiry. The journal encompasses a broad spectrum of themes within this field, including Islamic Family Law, Islamic Law and Society, Islamic Law and Gender, Islamic Law and Human Rights, Islamic Law and Politics, Islamic Law and Philanthropy, Law in the Modern Muslim World, Sharia Courts, Islamic Jurisprudence (Fikih), and Islamic Legal Theory (Ușul Fikih & Maqāsid Syarī'ah). IJIL aims to deepen the understanding of Islamic legal thought through interdisciplinary dialogue, empirical socio-legal research, and reform-oriented perspectives that are firmly rooted in both the classical tradition of Islamic jurisprudence and the contemporary realities of Muslim societies, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Global South. Upholding a fair and rigorous double-blind peer review process, IJIL is committed to consistently publishing high-quality scholarly works that explore diverse yet interconnected dimensions of Islamic law. By embracing this broad and integrated approach, the journal positions itself as:

“A journal of socio-legal innovation and transformative ijtihad in Muslim societies.”

This comprehensive focus enables IJIL to make a meaningful contribution to the evolution of Islamic legal scholarship in a rapidly changing world.

Since its inception in 2018, the IJIL (Indonesian Journal of Islamic Law) has published articles by distinguished scholars from 5 continents—Asia, Africa, America, Australia, and Europe—and from over 30 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Canada, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the USA, Tunisia, Türkiye, Uganda, Sudan, Iran, India, Morocco, France, Armenia, Austria, Sweden, Algeria, the Philippines, Belgium, Spain, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Jordan, Brunei Darussalam, Lebanon, and Greece, among others.
