Retraction and Correction

Retraction and Correction Policy
The Indonesian Journal of Islamic Law (IJIL) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record. When errors or misconduct are identified in published or submitted works, IJIL follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines to ensure that corrective actions are applied in a transparent and consistent manner.

1. Retraction of Published Articles
An article may be retracted if:
1). There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to scientific misconduct (e.g., data fabrication, falsification) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation, experimental error).
2). The article constitutes plagiarism or reports unethical research.
3). The article has been published elsewhere previously without proper citation, permission, or justification (duplicate publication).
4). The article involves copyright infringement, defamation, or other serious legal issues.
• Retracted articles will remain accessible on the journal website but will be clearly marked with a “Retracted” watermark on each page.
• A retraction notice will be published, explaining the reason(s) for retraction and who initiated it (author or editor).

2. Corrections (Erratum / Corrigendum)
Corrections are issued when:
1). Minor errors are identified that do not invalidate the research findings but require clarification (e.g., misprints, errors in author names, affiliations, tables, or figures).
2). Authors or readers notify the editorial office of mistakes after publication.
     • Corrections will be published as an erratum (by the publisher) or a corrigendum (by the authors) and linked to the original article.
     • The corrected version of the article will be made available online with a note explaining the changes.

3. Withdrawal of Manuscripts (Pre-Publication)
Withdrawal applies to articles that have been submitted to IJIL but are not yet published (e.g., still under review or accepted but not included in an issue).
1). Authors may request withdrawal by submitting a formal letter stating the reason for withdrawal.
2). Withdrawal is considered misconduct if the manuscript is withdrawn for unethical reasons, such as:
     • submitting the same manuscript to another journal simultaneously (concurrent submission),
     • duplicate publication attempts,
     • or refusal to comply with major revisions after acceptance without reasonable explanation.
3). In such cases, IJIL reserves the right to report the misconduct to the author’s institution or funding agency.

4. Article Removal (Exceptional Cases)
In rare circumstances, IJIL may remove a published article from its website if:
1). the content is defamatory, infringes legal rights, is subject to a court order, or
2). The article poses a serious ethical, legal, or security risk.
® In such cases, the article’s metadata (title and author information) will be retained, but the full text will be replaced with a removal notice.

5. Notices and Transparency
1). All retraction, correction, or withdrawal notices will be published openly and linked to the original article (when applicable).
2). IJIL will not remove the original content but will ensure that readers are aware of the changes or issues through clear labelling and official notices.

6. Reference to COPE
This policy is based on the COPE Retraction Guidelines (2019) and the COPE Core Practices to ensure best practices in scholarly publishing.
